Huang Zhiming: Founder/General Manager of Guiyang Symphony Orchestra
Mr. Huang Zhiming began studying music from childhood, developing a profound passion for it. He served as a viola player in both a military cultural troupe and the Guizhou Provincial Song and Dance Ensemble. In 1990, he started his business career and in 1995 founded "Guiyang Xingli Plaza Co., Ltd." (predecessor to Guizhou Xingli Group), successfully establishing Guiyang's first fashion department store. Through dedicated and sincere management, "Xingli" grew into a diversified group encompassing department stores, supermarkets, and catering, becoming one of Guizhou's representative service enterprises while consistently fulfilling social responsibilities through philanthropy.
Rooted in Homeland: The Vision and Journey of Founding Guiyang Symphony Orchestra
Though immersed in business, Huang Zhiming never lost his love for music or concern for his hometown's development. In 2009, he personally funded the establishment of "Guiyang Symphony Orchestra", China's first professional symphony orchestra independently founded and operated by a private entrepreneur. Guiyang thus gained its own symphony orchestra, receiving strong government support from inception to present.
Since its founding, Huang has been hands-on in management and operations, guided by the conviction that "wealth from the city should return to the city" and the simple aspiration to "replace mahjong sounds with more music in Guiyang." His vision: to nourish the city through music and create beautiful memories for future generations.
To challenge cultural stereotypes of "remote mountainous regions," Huang and his wife have persistently upheld an "art-centric, musician-focused" philosophy, integrating corporate management experience to pioneer a new model for private orchestras: market-oriented operations for sustainable development, and corporate-style management for efficient systems.
Furthermore, to provide professional music education and retain artistic talent in Guiyang, Huang established the "Guiyang Symphony Orchestra Music School" in 2013. In 2018, he founded the "Guiyang Symphony Orchestra Youth Orchestra" to offer Guizhou's youth a professional platform for musical study and performance. Today, many students and parents have become classical music enthusiasts, while young learners have progressed from beginner to formal performers on stage.
In 2015, Huang withdrew from Xingli Group's management to devote himself fully to cultural initiatives and social contribution.
In 2021, he founded "Guizhou Shuoguo Cultural Development Co., Ltd." to democratize classical music and arts education accessible beyond niche circles, integrating art and wellness into daily life, and creating a community where culture enthusiasts can learn from and inspire each other.
Shuoguo Culture comprises "Shuoguo Education," "Shuoguo Fitness," and "Shuoguo Taste" (culinary experiences), synergistically integrated with the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra and its educational branches. Together, they aim to build an innovative cultural ecosystem blending artistic appreciation with healthy living, offering families distinctive lifestyles, warm communication environments, and refined learning spaces.
